A great accolade to round off a brilliant season

Report from Paul Williams, a delighted & proud Club President:

Congratulations to everybody at Holt Rugby club on the news that we have just been announced as the Winner of the Club of the Year in the Eastern Counties for the 2018/19 season!

There are 54 clubs in the region.

We were recognised based on the hugely successful year we have all just enjoyed, which included these achievements:

  • 1st XV promotion to London North East 2
  • 2nd XV promotion as League winners to Eastern Counties 1
  • 3rd XV promotion to Eastern Counties 2
  • 1st XV in Norfolk Intermediate Cup Final
  • 2nd XV in Norfolk Junior Cup Final
  • Colts winning EC Plate Final versus Bury St Edmunds
  • Youth under 16’s, under 15’s and under 14’s representing Holt RFC in Norfolk and EC finals

The 1st XV have played 27 competitive matches from pre-season through to the Norfolk Intermediate Final, two of which have been wins against clubs in higher leagues, and one match versus an Eastern Counties representative team. Pre-season recruitment of some five new players, together with development from our Youth section and overall integration of the senior squad has brought about these successes.

Our Annual Kingswood Mini’s Festival, now in its’ 15th season since 2004, brought in 31 clubs from 13 counties in the London area, Eastern England and the Midlands. 1,400 registered mini players took part, we parked more than 1,200 vehicles including 16 full-size coaches. Records were broken and record revenue to put back into promoting rugby. It is rumoured that this festival could be the largest of its’ kind in the UK.

The Club website is well maintained & regularly updated & the following on social media continues to grow.

Our Club facilities, overall friendly social inclusion, and successes on the field have ensured increasing use of the Club. The facilities are used by local businesses, fitness organisations, for birthday and anniversary celebrations & very regular use by the Constabulary as a venue for Speed Awareness Courses. The high standard of catering has been a talking point throughout Eastern England and occasionally from much further afield.

A testament to all staff and many volunteers involved at Holt RFC, situated by the North coast of Norfolk where the town has a population in the region of just 4,000 and probably one of only three clubs in Norfolk regularly putting out a 3rd XV.
