Ken is looking forward to celebrating his 90th birthday in the clubhouse after training

I’m looking forward to the 90th party following training
- Ken Swallow

Our rugby club has just entered the Aviva Community Fund awards to try to win funding to complete the refurbishment of the changing rooms at our clubhouse. Huge thanks to Adam Tebbutt from Argents Wealth Management for working with David & Martyn to put our application together. A part of the application included input from a club member on "what makes you proud to belong to Holt Rugby Club"? Thank you to Martyn Sloman for this interview with Ken & Rita Swallow.

Ken Swallow is one of Holt’s most loyal supporters and, he and his wife Rita, are ever-present at the pre-match lunch and on the touchlines at home games.
After 45 years service in the Post Office Ken retired in 1991 and the couple moved to Norfolk and looked for pursuits that would keep them fit and active. Ken took up playing touch rugby to assist the club in the skills training of the 14 year-old youth-team and remarkably at the age of 86 he stills plays every Thursday evening from 1830 to 2030, irrespective of the weather. He says that it is lovely to see players from the minis and the youths come through to the First XV. It is also very good fun: “the older boys soon learn to take the mickey”.
When he hit his 80th birthday Ken was treated to a special surprise party in the clubhouse following a Thursday session. “I’m looking forward to the 90th party following training”. At a pre-match luncheon in the 2016/17 season Ken and Rita were presented with flowers and extended applause in honour of their diamond-wedding anniversary.
Rita enjoys the warmth of the social side and the accompanying good humour. For both of them Holt represents development opportunities for the emerging generation of local players, and hospitality and participation for all.

We hope we can rely on your support when voting goes live on 24 October. Don't worry, we'll be shouting about it!
