News reached us in December that Mike Stott planned to retire from his various roles in rugby. This was momentous news for the sport in Norfolk and the Eastern Counties as his contribution over a lifetime has been so dedicated and considerable. Once his playing days ceased, his reputation as a referee was built and he become one of the most respected referees in the regional game over many, many years. His authority and the discipline he gently applied to his approach rubbed off on the players and consequently the games he officiated were always that little bit more enjoyable. To continue that on through his various roles in administering the game is a testament to his tenacity and the regard in which he is held.

Mike holds a special place at the heart of Holt Rugby Club and we hope that he will be able to spend more time with us post retirement; in the meantime we were honoured to welcome Mike and his wife Margaret to our pre-match lunch as guests of Holt Rugby Club. Rob Hughes Chairman spoke on behalf of all Mike's supporters to celebrate his career and the enormous impact he has made to so many.
