Last Thursday’s Schools Development Rugby at Holt RFC was another success, and well organised by Dave Upton with the Cromer and Sheringham School Sports Partnership.

Gresham Village School, Antingham & Southrepps, Holt Primary, Colby Primary and Sheringham Primary all provided two teams from their year 5 and 6 age groups. Two pitches were set up and fixtures organised for the teams on each pitch to play each other.

We were told that some of the children had never played tag rugby before. After a little bit of training with their teacher(s) and a couple of games, they were “playing rugby”. The difference in these kids by the end of the day was great to see.

I would like to thank all schools, staff and pupils that attended, it really was an enjoyable afternoon of tag rugby. A big thank you to Dave Upton for organising and to Dene Halfpenny (Fakenham RFC) & Nick Garrod (Holt RFC) for helping me ref the tag games.

We’re now looking forward to the Schools Development Rugby competition, to be held at Holt RFC in February 2024. If your school would like to enter, please ask your school to look out for an email from Dave Upton or contact him via email upton89@hotmail.com
