A truly detemined display by Holt under 15's

Tracy Waterfield21 Oct 2017 - 14:52

Holt under 15's showed real depth of character with a very determined win at Diss despite the very hot and sunny weather.

Over the years,as this particular Holt team have played their way through the different age groups Diss has always been the team to beat. The Holt supporters could only actually remember one win which was last seasons Norfolk Plate Final at Holt.

Diss showed their intent from the start with a kick off deep into Holt's half. Despite the pressure, Holt's well organised defence cleared the ball to Sam Ives who sprinted over half the length of the pitch to score the first try on the match. Cameron kicked the conversion for two more points.
Not put off by this, Diss fought their way back up to Holt's touch line. There was a few minutes of very intense play, neither side wanting to let the other through. The continued pressure on Holt's defensive line gave Diss the chance they needed only for the try to be judged "a double movement" and disallowed.
The penalty clearance kick went straight to Sam who once again didn't waste the chance to increase Holt's lead. Another two points as Cameron confidently kicked the conversion.
Once again an undeterred Diss came back strongly, their unrelenting pressure especially in the breakdown saw them awarded a penalty which was kicked to touch. They won the lineout and number 24 sprinted into the corner for their first try of the match.
As the half time whistle blew the score was 5-14.

Holt kicked off to start the second half. But, despite the half time break they seemed to lack some of the energy they showed earlier in the game.
The home team took full advantage of this when Diss number 24 picked up a spilled Holt pass and dashed to the line. Another 2 points were added with an excellent conversion from number 10.
The exceptionally hot and sunny weather seemed as though it would be the undoing of the visitors. From the re-start the ball was passed out to the Diss number 6 who raced half the length of the pitch to get a very rewarding try.
This second Diss try seemed to give Holt the incentive they needed to get back into the game. The Holt forwards worked hard to regain possession. Scrum half Harry W. pulled the ball from the ruck and passed to Cameron , to Jo Jo and then to Sam who scored his 3rd try of the game.
This may have been the turning point of the game as, once again the ball ended up in the hands of Sam who got his fourth try, with another great conversion kick from Cameron.
The final try of the match came after some more very determined play from both teams. It was however the visitors who gained possession, passed along the line of backs to Jakob who battled his way to his first try of the game. Cameron kicked his fourth conversion of the day.
The final score was 17-33.
A very hard fought game that could have gone either way. Diss were more determined at the breakdown while Holt had the more confident backs.
The return match at Holt will be one not to miss.
